A travel agent in Jaipur who charged a Rajya Sabha member highly inflated charges for domestic flight tickets could find himeslf in serious trouble. The RS secretariat, which was to reimburse the cost of four tickets, has written to aviation secretary K N Srivastava to act against the agent.
The airlines were paid the actual fares, secretariat sources said. MPs can either procure Air India flight tickets through the secretariat or purchase tickets on their own and get the cost reimbursed.
Congress MP Ashok Ali Tak bought the tickets from the agent for travel late last year. For a Jet Airways Delhi-Chennai ticket, the MP was charged a whopping Rs 99,292, while the agent paid the airline only Rs 39,292 as per a TOI report.. And for a Hyderabad-Bangalore ticket that was sold for Rs 67,270, the agent gave the airline Rs 17,270. AI got Rs 4,484 for a Chennai-Hyderabad ticket which was sold for Rs 35,184. IndiGo said it got Rs 8,910 for the Bangalore-Jaipur ticket that was bought for Rs 38,410.
