The railway ministry is in talks with the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board to study the feasibility of issuing visitor passes to pilgrims travelling by rail at the time of booking the ticket. Railway minister Pawan Bansal said this was being explored after the commissioning of the railway line up to Katra.
Thousands of pilgrims visit the shrine in Jammu and issuing of visitor passes along with a railway ticket would be hugely beneficial for those travelling to the site.
The ministry is also in talks with the Jammu & Kashmir government to enable passengers to travel from Jammu through Udhampur, Qazigund to Srinagar and Barmulla on a common rail-bus ticket.
Experts say this would help tourists visiting the state and expand the scope for tourism in the state.
