Railway minister C P Joshi has asked the Indian Railways Catering & Tourism Corp (IRCTC) to enhance the capacity of its web servers and upgrade its ticketing services after reports of passengers finding it difficult to book tickets online,.
Joshi, who took over additional charge of railways for the second time in UPA-II, expressed disappointment on the ministry's failure to tackle the issue. They added that he told his officials that the ministry did not seem interested in solving the issue.
On Monday, IRCTC officials had told the minister that the agency's web servers could book around 2,000 tickets per minute. The Indian Railways subsidiary plans to increase this to 7,200 e-tickets per minute in the current financial year, Joshi's predecessor Pawan Bansal had announced in his rail budget speech.
