Puduchery government has earmarked Rs 70 crores for tourism development projects in all the four regions of Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam during the current fiscal, Welfare and Tourism Minister P Rajavelu said.

He said Puducherry government was yet to receive Rs 125 crore from the Union Tourism Ministry for implementation of around 14 projects although the allocation was finalised recently.

Puducherry administration had prepared projects for eight out of the 14 projects involving an outlay of Rs 80.4 crores out of the Rs 125 crore finalised by the Centre. The report had been sent to the Centre for approval and allocation of the funds.

Stating that the fourth annual food festival organised by Department of Tourism in association with hoteliers and restaurant owners would be held for a week from August five, he said the festival was basically meant to make use of the visit of French nationals of Puducherry origin between July and August from France to spend holidays in Puducherry.
