Philips in Collaboration with MTDC to light up The Gateway of India on January 24, 2014

Philips, India’s leading lighting company in partnership with Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC), today announced that it will give a complete lighting makeover to the city’s iconic monument, the Gateway of India on January 24, 2014. 

In line with Philips’ and MTDC’s commitment towards sustainability practices, the Gateway of India is not only going to go greener but also more colorful as it gets a new energy-efficient LED lighting system called Philips Color Kinetics. Utilizing this one-of-a kind lighting system, the façade and mast of the iconic Gateway of India will now be able to change lighting scenes in real-time. This technologically-advanced LED lighting system, offers a palette of 16 million shades that can be programmed to create dynamic and unique lighting shows. Besides, this exceptional lighting system is being designed specifically to blend into the existing architecture of the Gateway of India also withstanding outside weather conditions and other external factors. 

Commenting on the initiative, Dr Jagdish Patil, Managing Director, MTDC, said, “For tourists as well as Mumbaikars, the Gateway of India, has been a favourite place to hang around and spend time in leisure. Besides, the monument is one of the most important photographic icons of Mumbai. It is a delight to see a company like Philips taking the initiative of transforming the night time view of the Gateway of India with lights. With a successful record of lighting up historical monuments in India, we are sure that Philips will yet again bring alive and transform Mumbai’s most admired monument through various possibilities of lighting.”
