In a bid to attract more tourists from newer growth markets in India, the Department of Tourism, Philippines (DOT) in coordination with the Philippines Tourism Marketing Office in India held a roadshow in Kolkata. The roadshow was designed to present DOT’s plan to promote its 7,107 heavenly islands as an extension of the It’s More Fun in the Philippines campaign in the city. It aimed at penetrating the outbound tourist market in Kolkata and raise awareness about the Philippines’ vast portfolio of tourism products.
Led by Raymund Glen Agustin, Head, Team India, DOT and Susan Del Mundo, DOT-Tourism Promotions Board, the delegation including Arturo Boncato Jr., Director, DOT Region XI gave an overview of the booming tourism industry in the Philippines. The event brought together leading travel and tour operators of the Philippines (Shroff Travel Care International, Blue Horizons Travel & Tours, Inc.), airline company (Philippines Airlines) to interact with local travel partners and buyers in B2B sessions.
Speaking on the occasion, Agustin said, “The Philippines clocked 42,844 tourist arrivals from India last year and posted a growth of 8.29% over 2011 arrival figures. It is a direct result of the DoT’s marketing and promotional efforts for the Indian market. In 2013, we are looking at a 50% growth over last year’s arrival figures and we expect to capture a bigger market share of outbound tourists from key tourist markets like Kolkata.”
The delegate from the Philippines shared presentations with the attendees and shed light on the It's More Fun in the Philippines campaign, which received an overwhelming response in both international as well as its domestic markets. DOT recently celebrated the first anniversary of its success in January 2013. The success of the campaign as well as the recently announced visa-free scheme for Indian travellers with valid AJACSS UK visa, has helped boost the number of Indian arrivals to the Philippines.
