Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will inaugurate the newly-built terminal at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport next month. The date of inauguration would be decided later based on the convenience of the Prime Minister, informed M Vijayakumar, Minister of State Public Works, Kerala.
He added that another stretch of 80 acres would be acquired and handed over to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for the second phase of development of the terminal.
On the issue of User Development Fee (UDF) proposed to be realised from passengers using the airport, he said that the matter was pending before a tribunal as the state government opposed such a levy. Political parties and travel trade organisations have come out against the user charge proposal.
