More than 50% of online booking of bus tickets seem unplanned, pointing to an impulse purchase behavior. 32% of it is on the day of the travel (Last Minute) and 24% is one day prior to travel

A recent report by Goibibo has revealed that most of online bus booking happens at the last hour.

More than 50% of online booking of bus tickets seem unplanned, pointing to an impulse purchase behavior. 32% of it is on the day of the travel (Last Minute) and 24% is one day prior to travel. 

The key factors driving growth of online bus ticketing are: Real time inventory being made available online from thousands of Bus suppliers and consolidators; Price and price comparison;  convenience of booking on mobile and PC. 

The other key aspect driving the growth is increase in supply of luxury buses such as Volvo, Mercedes and Olivia. 

There is a long, long tail when it comes to the distribution of bookings across sectors. While Bangalore-Hyderabad-Bangalore (10% of the bookings) tops the list, followed by Chennai-Bangalore ; Pune-Hyderabad; Bangalore-Vijaywada. On the other hand 55% of bookings comes from a massive long tail of 10000+ sectors.
