The visitors to the district headquarters at Painavu near here will soon be welcomed by the breathtaking view of the Idukki, Cheruthoni dams and the vast stretches of the Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary from the platform of the Hill View Park, the work for which has been completed.
A project of the District Tourism Promotion Council under the Idukki Tourism Project, the work of the park was started last year utilising Rs. 4.39 crore provided by the Central government. Once the public is allowed entry, the Hill View Park will be one of the major attractions in the district. The beautiful location of the area has been utilised without affecting the natural beauty. The man-made dam structures have been showcased without interfering with the natural elements as per a report in the Hindu.
The project involves the Hill View Park and a pathway and other facilities arranged in the downstream of the Idukki arch Dam. The work of the Hill View Park has been completed and only finishing touches need to be done, said Joykutty George, deputy director, Tourism Department, who is in charge of the Idukki District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC).
He said that the work of the road to the park is almost completed while the structural work on the downstream of the dam is also in the final stage. The Central fund has been utilised for the simultaneous development of the two spots, he said.
