The country, which has witnessed 8.4 per cent increase in the total number of Indian arrivals this year till September at 30,160, is also focusing on the meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) segment.

"Indians look at travelling to New Zealand mainly for honeymoon, family vacations. This year, we have has also started targeting the MICE market in India," Tourism New Zealand South & South East Asia Regional Manager Mischa Mannix-Opie told PTI.

She said in the period year ending September 2012, there were 14,704 holiday arrivals from India, which was up 15.2 per cent from the previous year. The increased spending power of Indians are also making them an attractive target.

"The rise in spending power of Indians as well as eagerness to explore new places makes the future appear pretty bright for an increase in the number of Indian travellers exploring and experiencing the different offerings of New Zealand," Mannix-Opie said. On average an India visitor spends NZD3,428 per visit, excluding airfare, she added.

"We are confident about the steady growth of the Indian market in 2013, and the organisation will continue to work with partners on ground to make New Zealand top destination in the minds of Indian travellers," she said.
