Indians are known to fly in huge numbers to the UK and the US for studies and work but in the recent years, people have started exploring newer countries. Netherlands is one such country, for which visa applications from India is growing by 15% every year.
"The maximum requests for visa is for business travel followed by tourism and student-exchange programmes," said Alphonsus Stoelinga, Netherlands' ambassador to India on the sidelines of the inauguration of Visa Facilitation Services (VFS) centre for Netherlands, on Friday.
Along with Netherlands, the VFS centre facilitates visa for six other Schengen countries — Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, Italy and Greece. In 2013, Ahmedabad VFS centre received 2,000 visa applications for the Schengen countries and in 2014 it is expected to cross 3,000 with the opening of centre for Netherlands.
