The first-ever Nepal-India Tourism Mart 2013 today kicked off in Lumbini, the birth place of Lord Buddha, in western Nepal as a joint effort to promote pilgrimage tourism between the two countries.
Nepalese Tourism Minister Posta Bahadur Bogati and Indian Ambassador to Nepal Jayanta Prasad jointly inaugurated the tourism mart amidst a special function in Lumbini, according to a press release. In his opening remarks, Tourism Minister Bogati said, that it is now imperative to promote other Buddhist destinations within Nepal for uplifting the living standard of common people across the country.
Ambassador Prasad on the occasion emphasised the need to develop Lumbini through the use of modern technology to lengthen the stay of tourists visiting the historic site. He said that India is ready to extend support to Nepal government to promote tourism in Lumbini area. Manoj Kumar Singh, Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Uttar Pradesh spoke about the initiatives taken by UP government for tourism promotion and offered to promote Lumbini and the Buddhist Circuit by setting up information centres in Buddhist sites of UP.
RP Goswami, Special Secretary, government of UP and Prachanda Man Shrestha, former CEO of Nepal Tourism Board, highlighted various subjects related with the Buddhist Circuit and tourism promotion in Nepal and India. More than sixty tourism entrepreneurs from Nepal are taking part in the tourism mart. During the technical session, presentations were made on various topics including tour operations between Nepal and India and development of the Buddhist Circuit.
