The Cauvery agitation and no air connectivity to the city affected the tourist inflow to Mysore Palace in 2012-13.
There has been a slight decline in number of tourists visiting the palace. The annual footfall at Amba Vilas Palace in 2012-13 was 30,00,452 against 35,20,112 in 2011-12. This includes children, domestic and foreign tourists.
According to the statistics provided by the Mysore Palace Board, 90,000 foreign tourists visited the palace in 2011-12 (from April to April) and it has reduced to 80,835 in 2012-13. Deputy director T S Subramanya told TOI: "There is a dip in foreign tourists. This may be due to Cauvery agitation and no air connectivity. Tourist inflow keeps varying every month."
The tourist inflow which has been on the rise since 2009 has seen a dip in 2012-13. The other reason for the decline is discrimination in price of ticket for domestic and foreign tourists. The present ticket price for domestic and foreign tourists is Rs 40 and Rs 200 respectively.
"There must be uniformity in the ticket price for both domestic and foreign tourists. Many have expressed their displeasure over the discrimination of ticket price. We will discuss about this in our next board meeting. We will also take measures to ensure that the tourists who visit the palace will watch sound and light show and all temples in the palace premises," Subramanya added.
