Airlines using wide-body aircraft will move their departures to the new international terminal at the Chennai airport from next month. The decision was taken at a meeting of Airports Authority of India (AAI) and representatives of airlines on Tuesday.
"All airlines that use narrow body aircraft have moved to the new building. We are planning to shift departures in different phases," said an AAI official.
Airlines like Etihad Airways and Cathay Pacific will start shifting their departures on September 1, said the official. Other airlines are expected to follow suit in subsequent days. AAI has decided to complete shifting of all departures to the new building by the end of September so that arrivals can be shifted in November.
