According to a report, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India plans to emulate the 139 service of Indian Railways by having a common phone number that will allow flyers to connect to the Indian carrier they are flying on or supply information on things like flight timings, fares and baggage rules.
Praful Patel, Minister of Civil Aviation, said the ministry is working on this and wants to have the facility in place before the Commonwealth Games 2010. Patel said, "The aim is to have a common number that will be able to provide all relevant information to flyers about Indian carriers."
The Ministry has called a meeting with the umbrella organisation of Indian airlines, Federation of Indian Airlines (FIA), on July 16. The industry will be asked to implement this move as the technology is available.
