The scale of tourism in the hinterland should be kept at a manageable level to protect family life in villages, Asha family responsibilities and rights association, a NGO has stated.

Massive hinterland tourism will destroy Goan village family life due to criminal activities, as the rural folks live peacefully here, a press note issued by the NGO stated. 

Tourism has not developed much in hinterland areas and successive governments have been promising incentives to entrepreneurs to extend the benefits of the tourism pie to villagers in remote areas.

The casinos in river Mandovi should be shifted ten nautical miles away from the coast according to law and the reduction in casino fees should be reviewed to discourage gambling, it noted further.
