Fear of Maoists has badly affected the tourism industry in Jharkhand, despite the state being well-known for its scenic beauty and historic temples.
The recent incidents of violence have deterred tourists from visiting the state, particularly in the Lohardaga region due to fear of shutdowns, abductions and blasts.
"The Maoist presence is high in the area, that's why no tourists are visiting here. Earlier, tourists used to visit these places once or twice in the year but from last few years, they have stopped visiting due to fear of extremists. All the tourist spots are left deserted," said Sabir Khan, a local.
Locals urged the administration to take steps towards developing tourism activities in the region, which would encourage business activities for them to earn their livelihood.
"Lohardaga is suffering losses, it is such a beautiful place and is the home of bauxite mining but no tourist spot is safe enough, where people can visit with their families," said Aalmin Ansari, Another Local.
People complained that due to presence of extremists, progress, development and prosperity have taken a backseat in the region.
Lohardaga Superintendent of Police (SP) Jitendra Kumar Singh said they have taken steps to increase security at the tourist places and the police staff has been given instructions.
"Blanket security arrangements are being made available at tourist places in every region and the staff has been instructed about the same," said Singh.
