As in the past many years, the Manipur state tourism department is going to observe the “World Tourism Day” on September 27 as in other parts of the world.
According to an official release of Commissioner-cum-director, Tourism, government of Manipur KK Chhetry, the UNWTO has selected the theme ‘Tourism: Linking Culture’ for this year.
It further mentioned that, the state department of tourism too, will observe “World Toursm Day” at two district headquarters of Senapati and Churachandpur having its aims and objective to affect better understanding among the multitudinous communities that in habitat this planet by linking their diverse culture and thereby forging greater understanding and acceptance. This understanding is an essential requisite if we are to translate the much-desired goal of world peace into a reality, the release added.
This year 12 comparatively smaller culture entities which have hitherto been afforded scant opportunity to showcase their rich cultural heritage, shall be enabled to do so. These cultural groups are Chiru, Chin, Simte, Thangkhal and Mate in Churachandpur and Thangal, Gorkha, Zemei, Koireng, Purum etc in Senapati district, and it is the avowed intention of the state tourism department to ensure the participation of more ethnic minorities in the future the release added.
The release further mentioned that, the cultural presentations will be interspersed with discourses by resource persons on the significances of the theme and all participating cultural troupes and audience shall develop a chain linking the dynamic tribal cultural heritage at the venue on the conclusion of the observation of the ensuing World Tourism Day and invites all join to the event and be involved to strengthen the rich cultural heritage of Manipur, the official release added.
