On Friday, the Maldivian Airways flew their first direct flight to the capital Male, keeping in mind the increase in demand of tourists wanting to travel from Mumbai. “Maldives is promoting medical tourism in a big way. It has even tied up with several high-end hospitals to help their cause,” said a Maldivian tourism officer.
Located to the south-west of India, the country attracts a huge chunk of honeymooners. As per the statistics with the tourism ministry of Maldives, the number of visitors from India is increasing by 20% every year; a considerable part of which comes from Mumbai and its nearby cities. Direct services are also being started from Chennai.
