With destination weddings on the rise, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Republic of Maldives, is tapping the Indian market to give tourism a fillip.  As per industry estimate, the wedding market in India is about US$ 25 billion and is growing at an average of between 25%-30% annually.

While destination weddings are still at a nascent stage, there has been a substantial rise amongst high net-worth families to travel abroad for wedding functions. If South & South-East Asia ruled the roost till couple of years ago, Turkey is fast emerging as a hotspot for destination weddings.

Airing his thought on Maldives being a wedding destination for Indians, Mr. Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor, Hon’ble Minister of Tourism, Arts & Culture – Republic of Maldives, said, “Marriage is an auspicious occasion. The pristine environment of Maldives is the perfect destination for couples to exchange their wedding vows. Our exotic islands along-with modern infrastructure and total privacy make for perfect wedding destination. Moreover, Maldives is close to India, not only geographically but also culturally and we share the same passion for art and culture.”
