The Ministry of Tourism has identified a National Park Mega Circuit covering Manas, Orang, Nameri, Kaziranga, Jorhat, Sivasagar and Majuli, as part of the Mega Tourist Circuits. At least 45 destinations have been identified all over the country.
The circuits have been identified on the basis of footfalls and their future tourismpotential. Out of the 45 identified projects, 30 have already been sanctioned, officialsources said.
For each identified mega destination and circuit, the Ministry of Tourism contribution as central financial assistance is capped at Rs.25 crore and Rs.50 crore, respectively, under the scheme of “Product Infrastructure Development for Destinations and Circuits”.
In Manipur, INA Memorial has been identified and in neighbouring Meghalaya, Umiam (Barapani) has been identified as mega destination. In Tripura a mega lake circuit including Mata Bari has been identified.
