In a bid to further develop and upgrade tourism facilities in Maharashtra, the state government has planned to set up a Tourism Promotion Council. As per PTI, the council will act as an apex body to guide, supervise and monitor activities in tourism sector.
State Tourism Minister Chhagan Bhujbal told that setting up of the Council was one of the prominent highlights of the Tourism policy announced in 2006. The proposal to set up the Council has been sent to the Chief Minister. "The proposal will come before the cabinet soon, following which, the terms and conditions of the Council will be notified separately," Bhujbal added.
The Council will be headed by the Chief Minister, while the Deputy Chief Minister will be its Vice chairman. "Tourism minister will be the Executive Chairman and Minister of State for Tourism will be designated as the Executive Vice Chairman," Bhujbal said.
The Council will comprise cabinet ministers of Forest, Home, Revenue, Transport, Chief Secretary, secretaries of Finance, Revenue and Forests, Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Mumbai Municipal Commissioner, MMRDA Commissioner, CEO of Maharashtra Coastal Board, General Manager of Railways. Non Government and semi Government bodies will also have their representatives in the Council, Bhujbal added.
