The colourful palette of pastels and ordered greenery with Portuguese themed stone fortresses and baroque churches, an array of festivities have again contributed significantly to the growth and competitiveness of Macau’s tourism.
If figures are to be believed, then there’s no denying the fact that travellers around the globe love Macau. During December 2011, provisional visitor arrivals was 2.55 million, representing an increase of 12.1% over December 2010. Among these, Greater China market made up 87.4%, which increased 12.8% compared with the same period last year. Moreover, International visitors recorded an increase of 7.4% over December 2010, represented 12.6% of the total visitors. From January to December 2011, visitor arrivals accumulated to 28 million, registering a 12.2% increase compared to the same period of 2010.
With the positioning of Macau as a World Center of Tourism and Leisure, it is leveraging this strategic position and development direction. The Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) ensures the perspective by implementing policies and measures adjusted to give priority to developing a comprehensive tourism development plan. At the same time, MGTO is devoting efforts in regional cooperation, quality tourism and innovative promotion to build Macau into a quality tourism destination.
Not only that, Macau has managed to draw a good number of Indian travellers to its shores, given the flexible visa rules for Indians. Quite evident from the current figures for total Indian arrivals from Jan-Dec, 2011, Indians are captivated with the diverse experiences that Macau offers.
