The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) will host a mega cultural festival at the Times Square in New York to attract the international traveller. "Regional performers will get an opportunity to showcase their talent on a global platform provided by the MTDC," said state tourism minister Chhagan Bhujbal.
"The event has been scheduled ahead of Diwali so that international tourists can plan their itinerary and visit Maharashtra during the festival of lights," he added.
"We will try to create a Maharashtrian feel to the setting on Times Square. Our performers will be decked out in Kolhapuri turbans and matching attire," said acting MTDC MD Satish Soni.
Plans are afoot to hold a music concert with a laser show and a food festival. "Tourists will be able to learn saree-draping, apply mehendi during the event," said an MTDC official.
