The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) is up for major changes. In a first, the new managing director, Jagdish Patil, has proposed to make all accounts of the corporation, its records and reports online by installing software at each of its resorts, till the end of November as per a report in TOI by Neha Madaan. It is for the reconciliation of its accounts, which would be updated daily online.

The MTDC also plans to train its hotel staff under a skill-improvement programme. Uniform for MTDC officers in each grade and biometric devices at each of its offices and resorts are also being considered. Patil, who took over as managing director on September 2, said, "All of MTDC's staff will be computer-literate and will be connected to one another through the web. Updating accounts and reports online is necessary as there has not been any meticulous compilation of these till now."

Earlier, due to a shortage of manpower, the MTDC could not maintain and reconcile records and accounts. "Once the software is in place, an employee can enter data online, thus generating numerous reports, which then would be compiled automatically," added Patil.

Also on the agenda is a digital display online, which would show the availability of rooms at MTDC resorts. "Often, tourists visit resorts not knowing whether or not the rooms are available. The digital display is for the tourists to check availability of rooms," said Patil. A skill-improvement and capacity building programme to train its hotel and restaurant staff is also in the pipeline. "The hotel staff will be trained in short-term modules in a phase-wise approach, while private hotels too will be requested to train their staff with the same," said Patil.
