The Maharashtra state transport body's AC Volvo sleeper bus service to Bangalore, which will start next week, will have a fixed ticket price of Rs 2,180 per passenger throughout the year. The amount will be half the fare of private buses, which charge as high as Rs 4,000 per passenger.
The MSTRC will launch the service on June 5, when the first bus will leave Mumbai at 2pm and reach Bangalore at 8am the next day. The return service from Bangalore will start at 4pm and reach Mumbai the next day at 10am.
"We are primarily targeting business commuters and software professionals as these buses will go via Pune and Kolhapur," said MSRTC managing director Deepak Kapoor. "We have 32 luxuriously furnished sleeper berths in the Volvos, which will ensure comfort," he added.
"Private operators may offer a lower fare, like Rs 2,030. But our fares will remain the same throughout the year, even during peak season and festivals," Kapoor said.
