MP State Tourism Development Corporation (MPSTDC) has plans to promote sites associated with Lord Krishna in Madhya Pradesh.
Though the focus will be to develop the lesser- known sites – a committee comprising historians Dr Bhagwati Lal Purohit, Dr Shyam Sunder Nigam, Dr Raman Solanki and Dr Prashant Puranik and Sanskrit scholar Shyam Narain Vyas has been formed to research on incidents and places associated with Lord Krishna in Madhya Pradesh – the more well-known ones will also be spruced up as per a HT report.
“Places associated with Krishna would be promoted on the lines of Dwarka, Vrindavana and Mathura. We have already started work,” said Mohan Yadav, chairman of MPSTDC.
An amount of Rs. 40 lakh has been earmarked to give Sandipni Ashram in Ujjain a face- lift.
This is where Lord Krishna is believed to have grown up and the legend of his friendship with a poor Brahmin boy, Sudama, has its roots.
Yadav said a sum of Rs. 4.5 crore has been sanctioned for the work that is now underway at Janapao near Indore, and another Rs. 1.12 crore for sprucing up Mahidpur in Ujjain district.
