The cave temple of Gupteswar, Duduma waterfall, Deomali, the highest peak of Odisha, Sunabeda, where the HAL plant is located, and Maliguda, a small hilltop village where India's highest broad gauge is located, Curvy ghat roads spirally ascending lofty hills and descending into steep valleys, Dense forests lining up roads with moonlight piercing through leaves at night are all part of the Koraput district in Odisha.
The district that has all ingredients to draw tourists has failed to do so. Lack of infrastructure, poor road communication and poor packaging of tourist spots are putting off tourists an Odisha Tourism officialtols TOI .
"Some of the major tourist spots like Gupteswar, Duduma, Machkund, Deomal and Kechla are lying in utter neglect. These spots lack basic facilities," said tribal researcher of Jeypore Gobardhan Panda.
The panthika (guesthouse) at Gupteswar is badly damaged. Two new panthika's constructed at Sunabeda and Koraput at a cost of Rs 2.79 crore are yet to be thrown open to public though they were completed a few years ago as per the TOI report.
