Kutch Ranotsav expected to attract more than 1 lac tourists

The Gujarat government expects over one lakh tourists at the annual desert festival in Kutch beginning December this year, a state government official said. This will be 3-4 times the arrivals in the 2010 event. More number of tents, a laser show, hot air ballooning, All Terrain Vehicles and TV artists are amongst the additional attractions authorities have planned for the forthcoming event. 

The desert festival 'Rannotsav' is being held every year at Dhordo village in Kutch, famous for its white sand. The move is a part of event based tourism to promote the tourism sector in the state. Facilities like hot air ballooning, dance of Sidi tribe (of African origin but residing in Saurashtra), yoga zone, meditation point, silent zone will also feature at the temporary city to be set up at Dhordo for the one-month long Rannotsav 2011 beginning from December 9. 

Rannotsav 2010 saw 450 makeshift tents for the first three days. The number fell to 150 tents for the rest of the month. "This year, we have arranged for 450 tents throughout the month so the arrivals will cross the one lakh mark. We will also have better facilities this year. We are targeting corporates and business segments and NRIs. A TV award function will also be held," said Vipul Mitra, state Toursim Secretary.
