Even as Goa's tourism market is already facing competition from Gujarat and Kerala, another market is taking shape closer to home at a distance of about 100 km from the North Goa border.

The Maharashtra government is building an airport in Chipi village of Sindhudurg which is about 84km from the proposed greenfield airport at Mopa. The new airport is expected to help development in the entire Konkan region. There are also plans to promote it as the next hot tourist spot in the country.
