Kashmir tourism stakeholders to hold 2-day conclave from May 13

The conclave will chalk out strategies for the overall growth of tourism sector in the state

A two-day tourism conclave will be held at SKICC in Srinagar from May 13. Named as Al Khuddam Tourism Conclave, it will be first tourism event of its kind in Srinagar in which all the stakeholders including government departments would participate. The conclave will chalk out strategies for the overall growth of tourism sector in the state.

The organizers of the conclave have constituted a Consultative Panel and an Organizing Committee. Former chairman, Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Alliance G M Dug has been appointed as the chairman of the Consultative Committee; Nasir Shah chairman JKTA as Convener. Sheikh Feroz of Al-Khuddam Group has been appointed as chairman of the Organizing Committee and President, Travel Agents Association of Kashmir Rouf Tramboo its Convener. Dr Farooq Kaloo is member of the organizing committee as per a report in Greater Kashmir.

The conclave will elicit suggestions of the members as well as the stakeholders. Based on such suggestions, a charter-of-demands will be prepared and presented to the government on May 14. Sheikh Feroz said: “The conclave will try to find out the reasons hobbling the growth of tourism in Kashmir.” “J&K has huge tourism potential but we are lagging behind on many fronts. Through this conclave we will try to find out such weaknesses and solutions.” There will be brainstorming session in the conclave. “The suggestions that will come up through this session will be put before the government,” he added.

Government departments especially the Tourism Department and Srinagar Municipal Corporation have assured their support to the event. On the first day of the Conclave on May 13, four different groups of local tourism stakeholders will have panel discussion on different themes. On the second day, there will be a conference in which prominent traders’ bodies and tour operators from outside the state would participate.
