Kerala Tourism Development Corporation opened its first hotel outside Kerala, in the city on Friday. The 90 room mid-budget hotel is designed on a unique business model. The property is built on Kerala government-owned land, but 90 per cent of the rooms are earmarked for commercial purposes and the rest are reserved as government guest houses.
“This is the first time we have looked at this model. It can be used by several State governments that have similar land in key cities,” said the marketing manager of KTDC, G S Rajmohan.
The property is aimed at several sections of tourists including those from Malaysia and North India who visit the city before heading to Kerala, and those who are headed for destinations like Port Blair before going to Kerala.
