The Jordan Tourism Board has said tourist inflow from India to Jordan is expected to grow by about 45 per cent this year compared to 2010, despite the political unrest in the country.
In 2010, 51,000 people from India travelled to the Arab nation for leisure, work, religious purpose and spa treatment. "In the first five months of this year, 29,000 people have already visited Jordan (from India), which is a 43 per cent increase over the first five months of 2010," said Jordan Tourism Board Managing Director Nayef H Al-Fayez
He said for the entire 2011, the board expects around 45 per cent growth in the number of tourists.
"So far this year, the growth in India has been maximum, compared to any other country across the world," he said. From across the world, Jordan annually receives 4.5 million tourists, of which 50 per cent are from the Arab region.
An Indian tourist on an average spends USD 160 in Jordon per day, that excludes expenditure on air travel. "Including air travel, per day per Indian spend is estimated at USD 300," he added. The Jordanian tourism board set up an office in India a couple of years back and every year it organises road shows here to strengthen ties with travel and tour operators.
"This year we have increased the promotion and marketing budgets compared to last year to promote our country better in India," Al-Fayez said.
