Jammu and Kashmir Government hosted a rafting marathon on Sunday with an aim to boost adventure tourism in the state. Around six teams from across the country participated in the event, which was held for the first time on River Jhelum at Srinagar.
Anjali Singh, a participant appreciated the efforts of the state government in organising this rafting event that could explore and promote the potential of the adventure tourism in valley. “It is basically for the promotion of the game. It is a game, which does not have any age limit and anyone can participate in this event. So, it is a very good kind of adventure sport. I think it is going to be fun in having it here because it is for the first time in Srinagar,” she added.
Arun Ahluwalia, organiser of the event, said the event would strengthen the tourism in the state and increase employment opportunities. He cited the example of Uttarakhand, which is just eight years old since formation as a state, and has been able to thrive on tourism.
