Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today stressed for eco-friendly tourism practices to ensure that state\'s rich ecological diversity is not affected.
Pressing for application of the eco-tourism concept in all tourism development programmes, Omar, while addressing a public meeting in Shopian district, called for scientific approach to develop a tourism infrastructure which is in consonance with the ecological requirements of the region.
The chief minister appealed to the people, especially youth, to cooperate with the government at all levels to conserve state\'s ecology and environment.
Describing forests as crucial for ecological conservation, Omar called for joint efforts to protect them in the state.
Earlier, the chief minister laid foundation of Eco-Tourism Village at Heerpora on the picturesque Mughal Road.
On this occasion, he said the eco-village along the Mughal Road will attract nature lovers and tourists in the area and help generating job opportunities.
With the completion of Mughal Road, the dream of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah to connect the Valley with Poonch and Rajouri via Shopian and open up backward pockets for economic betterment has been realised, he said.
The Chief Minister also thanked the Centre for providing financial support for construction of this road.
