The continuous apathy from premier international airlines in skipping the Jaipur skies has forced the airport authorities to turn to domestic airlines to start international operations from Jaipur.
As per a report in TOI, officials of the airport had convened meetings with Kingfisher and Jet airlines — which fly to international destinations — on start operations here. Low-cost airlines, Indigo and Spice, which are set to provide global services, are also roped in by the airport officials here.
"These domestic airlines are getting good response from Jaipur. The air traffic here is rising with 10-12 per cent, making it an ideal destination for growth. They can capitalize on the sizeable Rajasthani diaspora settled abroad especially in South East Asian countries," RK Singh, Jaipur airport director, said.
Without divulging much detail, Singh said talks are in advanced stage for one international flight, either to Bangkok or Singapore, from October onwards. He said the biggest worry for any airline is to get the continuous passenger load. In this regard, Singh said he had recently met tour operators, hoteliers and tourism department officials to find ways to increase frequency of flights.
