Jammu and Kashmir has vast potential for adventure and sports tourism, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said and directed officials to tap it for generating employment.
"Jammu and Kashmir is a unique destination for adventure and sports tourists as they have the option of choosing from multiple sports activities," Omar said after giving away prizes at the concluding ceremony of Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Primal Golf Cup at Pahalgam last evening.
The Chief Minister said a golf circuit had been set up in Jammu and Kashmir to provide opportunity to golfers to play in different conditions. "A new 18-hole golf course has been set up in Leh. Besides, golfers can also play at Jammu, Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam and can enjoy different geographical conditions and natural beauty," Omar said.
He asked the Tourism Department and other agencies concerned to showcase the potential of the state and rope in golfers and adventure sports persons from all over the world, thereby generating employment for the locals, especially the youth.
The tournament, organised by the J&K Tourism Department, saw many renowned golfers from around the country and abroad taking part. Former captain of Indian cricket team Kapil Dev and ambassadors from eight countries, including Oman, Indonesia, Malaysia and Kazakhstan, participated in the event.
