JK govt. to impose ban on constructions in the notified areas alongside Lidder river

No illegal structure would be registered and even the registration of existing structures found illegal would be cancelled

The JK government has decided to notify nine adjoining villages on Lidder river and bring it under Pahalgam Development Authority (PDA). The government also decided to impose blanket ban on constructions in the notified areas, downstream Lidder river besides designated wild life sanctuaries.

Official sources said that a high level meeting was conveyed under the chairmanship of Minister for Tourism Ghulam Ahmad Mir regarding the illegal constructions coming up at various tourist destinations particularly Pahalgam and Sonamarg. The meeting was also attended by Minister of State for Tourism, Sajad Ahmad Kichloo and top officials.

“The meeting decided to notify new potential tourism destinations in the vicinity of Pahalgam to be notified and bought under Pahalgam Development Authority (PDA),” said an official. He said the concerned authorities were directed to issue the required notification in this regard immediately as per a report in Greater Kashmir.

“The meeting decided to act on the recommendations of an expert committee of environmentalists and University expert team formed by the High Court and notify nine tourist villages in the vicinity of Pahlagam,” official said. The villages, he said include, Mawoora, Veersaran, Yanner, Srechan, , Batkoot, Jaibal, Ganeshpora, Hardi Kichrooa and Amad Wagad.

It said that other tourist place Langanbal is already notified while the two wild life sanctuaries of Gujrani Batikoot and Overa stand designated as Wild Life Sancturies and need not to be notified. Taking serious note of the illegal commercial structures and haphazard constructions in Pahalgam and Sonmarg, the Tourism Minister, Ghulam Ahmad Mir directed the authorities to impose complete ban on raising illegal structures and instructed that no illegal structure should be registered and even the registration of existing structures found illegal should be cancelled.
