Japan Airlines (JAL) becomes the first airline to introduce the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft in the country. The airline will start Boeing 787 Dreamliner service officially from May 1 between New Delhi and Narita, Tokyo.
This will be the debut of the world’s newest aircraft in India.
On April 22 this year, Japan Airlines debuted 787 Dreamliner Service to the United States thus launching the first-Ever nonstop flight between Boston and Asia. Now JAL will be introducing the Dreamliner in the New Delhi – Tokyo route.
These new GEnx-powered aircraft will allow JAL to deliver state-of-the-art amenities to its customers, reduce its operating and fuel costs and strengthen JAL’s presence in India. As a start, JAL will start the 787 Dreamliner service on 4 out of the 5 weekly flights between New Delhi and Narita, Tokyo.
Mr. Yasushi Isomura, Country Manager, Japan Airlines, said, “With the launch of the Dreamliner India will become the 2nd country in JAL’s operations to get this special high end craft. This reiterates our commitment to the Indian market and also talks about the importance of this market in India. The first Dreamliner service will be launched in India from tomorrow. We are very happy to introduce the Boeing 787 Dreamliner in the Indian market.”
He added, “JAL is making best use of the aircraft’s long-range capability, appropriate capacity, and its economic performance. With the introduction of Boeing 787 Dreamliner, we are expecting to attract a lot of corporates and leisure travelers.”
By deploying the 787 Dreamliner on long-haul routes to markets that can garner substantial travel demand such as New Delhi, JAL is making best use of the aircraft’s long-range capability, appropriate capacity, and its economic performance to serve medium-size markets with substantial business demand. We also hope to strengthen our competitiveness by offering the enhanced comforts of this state-of-the-art aircraft to customers in New Delhi - the capital of India and a government, commercial and business center for the country. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner has the appropriate capacity for the Indian market. The drive for these aircrafts comes from the need to replace less efficient aircrafts with more eco-efficient ones and growing air travel demand for this route.
JAL’s 787 Dreamliner is currently fitted with 42 seats in business, featuring the Executive Class JAL SHELL FLAT NEO seats that are 5 cm (2 inches) wider (than the seats now fitted on JAL’s Boeing 777s) in a 2-2-2 configuration, and 144 in Economy Class with 2 cm (0.8 inches) wider space than current seats and arranged in a 2-4-2 configuration. JAL has on order a total of 45 Boeing 787 Dreamliners.
