The Chenab river in Doda-Jammu is going to be the venue for an international water rafting event.
In the four-day carnival starting today, teams from European countries, Australia and Nepal will compete with teams from the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police at Pul Doda in Doda district, Jammu.
The tourney is not a gender-specific event, and both male and female rafters will participate in the four day gala. “The participants have already arrived, and the tourney will take off on Sunday,” Robin Singh Mehta, director of tourism, Jammu, told DNA.
This is the first major tournament to be held in Jammu in a bid to promote the winter capital as popular tourism destination akin to Kashmir. “There are certain areas with potential for water rafting. And this stretch on the Chenab is suitable for such events,” said Mehta.
