International kite festival held in New Delhi

Kite flying experts from the United Kingdom, France and Indonesia as well as National experts from Chennai, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Gujarat, and Jodhpur participated in 2 day event

A two-day “Delhi International Kite Festival” was inaugurated with great fanfare by Delhi Women and Child Development Minister Kiran Walia on the India Gates lawns here on Saturday.

Dr. Walia released a pictorial souvenir to mark the first edition of the festival, which has succeeded in attracting kite flying experts from the United Kingdom, France and Indonesia. National experts from Chennai, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Gujarat, and Jodhpur are also participating.

The first day saw the participation of national and international experts. Indonesia’s Ally displayed her skills by flying a bebean (fish-shaped kite), as did Graham Lockwood and Derek Kuhn from the U.K. France’s Michele enthralled Delhiites with the ring type, box and couronne (crown-shaped) kites.

The first day of the event, organised by the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation, drew a big crowd of kite enthusiasts. Delhiites, who have been hooked on to this sport for years, witnessed the visual delight.
