Travellers in India are altering plans and opting for shorter trips and cheaper destinations as vacation budget has taken a beating amid sagging economic scenario, says a survey.

According to the Mid Year Traveller Sentiment Barometer survey by TripAdvisor, travellers have altered vacation options because of budget strains and rupee depreciation, but they have not given up on their holiday plans.

About 21 per cent of respondents are replacing their international holiday with a domestic destination, and 22 per cent are looking at alternative foreign shores like South East Asia, over their original international destination of choice, due to the rupee fall.

\"Budgetary concerns are having a definite impact on overall travel plans this year, particularly international travel,\" TripAdvisor India Country Manager Nikhil Ganju said.

Ganju further noted that \"instead of abandoning travel plans are simply opting for domestic destinations, shorter trips or destinations like South East Asia where the Rupee can deliver more on holiday\".

International holiday plans for more than half (51 per cent) per cent of respondents got affected as vacation budget took a beating from the sliding rupee, the report says.

Moreover 9 per cent of respondents have cancelled a foreign holiday and the rest 43 per cent changing their holiday destination.

The survey noted that 24 per cent are looking at cutting down travel plans in 2012 compared to last, while the figure stood at just 7 per cent in December 2011.
