British Airways today said that India has emerged as the second largest market for the carrier after North America and continues to hold significance potential for growth.
The leading global airliner, which has been operating flights to India over last 85 years, has recently increased the number of flights to 48 per week operating daily flights to Hyderabad and Bangalore apart from two flights a day to Mumbai and Delhi and six flights to Chennai.
“We have added 40 per cent capacity to India in the recent times and see significant potential for growth as the number of business and tourist travellers increase to the UK and other parts of the world. Nowhere else we have added such numbers and capacity,” Christopher Fordyce, Regional Commercial Manager, British Airways, South Asia, said.
Addressing a press conference at Hyderabad today, he announced the arrival of its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner to Hyderabad through its association with Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan. The brand new aircraft adorned with a plaque commemorating and honouring the megastar landed here on Monday morning.
He said British Airways had committed an investment of £5 Billion for aircraft acquisition and strengthening other infrastructure and improving resources. The airline had ordered 12 Airbus A 380s and 24 Boeing 787s. Eight of these aircraft have already joined the fleet and eight more are expected to join during the year, with the remaining aircraft to be inducted over the next two years.
