India has always been an important source market for Kenya as a tourist destination. In 2012 over 61,275 Indian tourists travelled to Kenya. India is the 4th largest source market with 6.9% market share till June 2013. Since 2009 India has registered a growth of 68% in the number of tourist’s receipts. Kenya has come up with lot of promotions and activities to highlight the destination in India and attract the avid travelers.

Kenya Tourism Board recently participated in SATTE, New Delhi. It is a B2B event organized every year, emphasizing on developments in travel and tourism. At the event ‘Magical Kenya Expert’ certificate were given to the Travel Trade by H.E Florence I. Weche, High Commissioner of Kenya to India. KTB along with 12 private participants, including tour operators, hoteliers, service providers and DMC’s from Kenya were present to showcase their product line for Indian market.

Kenya Tourist Board stall witnessed good numbers in terms of Travel Trade visitors and great spectator’s participation.

H.E Florence I. Weche, High Commissioner of Kenya to India said, “We see a lot of potential in Indian market and that’s why we are marketing more now. Our objective is to reach over 2,00,000 Indian tourists in the next five years. Overall, in arrivals, India ranks 4th after UK, US and Italy. We are focusing on weddings, high end travelers, honeymoon, sports and Bollywood. India and Kenya has a lot of historical connection and it is easy for Indians to connect with the country.”

One of the main highlight of the event was the launch of first ever mobile application; The Magical Kenya App. This mobile application aims to increase arrivals to the country by providing an opportunity through which the tourists find reliable information about Kenya, plan their trips and share their holiday experiences in form of videos. This application is available on both the android and iOS platforms.
