In a bid to turn around its fortunes after losing majority of its railway catering business two years ago, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has decided to penetrate the lucrative market of corporate travel business.
It has recently acquired a recognition from the International Air Transport Association to foray into corporate travel services, which it estimates to be a countrywide Rs 1,000-crore business. As a first move, the IRCTC plans to set up its counters at corporate offices of its clients in both public and private sectors as per a report in Indian Express by Avishek G Dastidar.
“We will provide end-to-end travel solution to companies, starting from designing the itinerary to arranging travel, accommodation and all related services, including taking care of visa formalities,” an IRCTC official said.
The business will take IRCTC to areas which are away from its traditional operation area of catering. The corporate travel unit of IRCTC extends various services like airlines tickets, visa assistance, overseas medical insurance, cab rental, and hotel booking.
The company is understood to have firmed up an aggressive marketing strategy to garner clients. Its zonal offices in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore and Hyderabad have been geared up to increase market share.
