Hotel prices in London begin to fall

The Olympics fever is rising as we are getting closer to the opening night - 27th July 2012 & London is in the limelight and a number of athletes, sport enthusiasts and tourists and flocking the city to witness this iconic world event. As the city plays host to a large number of people, Hotels.com has presented an insight into the impact the games have had on the hospitality industry of London so far:
The average rate for rooms being booked in London in the first part of July during the main Olympic period was £146 (INR 12,682) an increase of 34% year-on-year. Prices have begun to fall for several reasons: Release of rooms by LOCOG on April 25th and June 26th. Many of the bigger hotels have removed their length of stay restriction and are now selling rooms for one night stays. Demand has not been as strong as hoped. Tour operators booked their groups away from London to other European capitals in the early days. Prices are likely to continue to fall and promotional offers are starting to come through.
There are still rooms available across London in all classes of hotel. Occupancy is still very healthy. Hotels are still making healthy profits and average daily rates are still high. Busiest booking days so far are: Opening night: 27th July First two day of the athletics: 3rd and 4th August
