Hong Kong sees a growth of 35.2% in Indian visitors

61.7% of visitors from India halted back for more than a day’s stay whereas 38.3% returned to India on the same day

The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) announced its total number of visitor arrivals to Hong Kong in February 2012 reached 3,371,202, 15.3% higher than the same month last year. A 35.2% growth in Indian visitors was observed in Hong Kong in February, 2012 as compared to the same period last year. 61.7% of visitors from India halted back for more than a day’s stay whereas 38.3% returned to India on the same day. 

 The performances of individual market regions during the month are summarised as follows:

 Mainland China – Mainland arrivals went up by 14.4% year-on-year to reach 2,296,814. Of these, 66.1% or over 1.51 million came to Hong Kong under the Individual Visit Scheme, representing an 18.5-% increase.

 Short-haul Markets – Overall short-haul arrivals rose by 16.1% year-on-year to 654,778, with South and Southeast Asia and North Asia registering growth of 24.4% and 22.7% respectively. Hong Kong received 30,013 Indian visitors in Feb, 12 as compared to 22,201 in Feb, 11 in the short hauled markets.  

 Long-haul Markets – Growth of 23.2% was recorded for the long-haul arrivals, which totalled 360,219. All long-haul market regions, namely the Americas, Europe, Africa and the Middle East, as well as Australia, New Zealand and South Pacific, showed double-digit increase in arrivals.

 For the first two months of 2012, cumulative arrivals climbed up by 15.2% to 7,513,244, with Mainland, overall short-haul and long-haul arrivals all showing year-on-year growth.
