To boost tourism in the state, Assam Tourism Department will assist fringe dwellers near wildlife destinations and other tourist spots in developing traditional home-stays for visitors.
Tourism Director Baldev Malakar told The Assam Tribune that the initiative – in consonance with ‘Incredible India Bed And Breakfast Scheme’ – seeks to provide home-like, clean and affordable accommodation facilities to tourists. “We believe that it would appeal even more to the foreign tourists who are generally keen to stay with a local family, get a feel of the traditional life, and savour the warmth and hospitality,”
Malakar said, adding that authentic Assamese cuisines would be another attraction for the enthusiastic traveller. Malakar said that the endeavour would entail training and equipping the home-stay providers in matters of hospitality.
“Preliminary works for the purpose have already started, and we intend to promote home-stays at all the major tourist places, including the wildlife destinations,” he added. The Tourism Department has submitted a proposal for developing home-stays to theState Government.
