A Hanuman statue is going to be Mysore's latest tourist attraction. The monolithic statue will be open to public from December 23 on Vaikunta Ekadasi, an auspicious day for Hindus.

A 36-feet Hanuman statue already exists at Namakkal in Tamil Nadu. But this one being erected at Ganapathi Sachchidananda Ashrama is 42-feet tall and is placed on a 30-feet pedestal.

Grey granite rock, transported from Mellela village in Andhra Pradesh's Cuddapah on a 90-wheeled truck, was used to carve this statue.

'Karya Siddi Hanuman' as it is called, was sculpted by 18 sculptors headed by Subramanya Achar from Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh. Sculptors took more than 10 months to chisel out the statue from the 200-tonne rock.

Hanuman in a standing position has been chiseled out from a 90 tonne granite rock got from AP. It took 10 months for 18 sculptors to carve this. The statue is installed on a 30-feet high pedestal. The pedestal itself is on an octagonal temple. A 5-feet tall saffron Hanuman statue has also been erected to facilitate puja. The statue has cost the ashram Rs 2 crore.
