Goa to host 30,000 Russian charter tourists in December

Though their numbers have swelled, the buzz in the Bardez coastal belt is that Russians are poor spenders who are haggling over prices, even in restaurants

Over 30,000 Russian charter tourists are visiting Goa this month, arriving in around 150 charter flights. According to Russian travel agency sources, most of these Russians will be coming from cities like Moscow, St Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Ekaterinburg, Irkutsk, Kazan, Krasnodar, Nizhni Novgorod, Novosibirsk, Perm, Rostov-na-Donu, Samara, Ufa and Chelyabinsk.

Besides charter tourists from the Russian Federation, Goa will also receive Russian-speaking people from other countries of the former Soviet Union. Charter tourists from Ukraine come mainly from Kiev, Harkov, Odessa and Donetsk, while tourists from Kazakhstan are flying from Alma Ata as per a TOI report.

On an average, 220-280 people fly in one flight, depending on the type of aircraft. According to Ekaterina Belyakova, managing partner, Tara tour operator, "On an average the tourists stay for 7-14 days. The ticket cost starts at USD 600 plus accommodation starting at USD 20 per night. There are various packages suited for different needs and requirements."

She adds, "Goa now has such diverse infrastructure that it can satisfy almost any kind of tourist, from one preferring completely budget accommodation to one opting for a lavish stay. The range of package cost would vary from a minimum USD 600-800 per person to USD 15,000 per person."
